Thinking Like an Artist

Updated: Oct 11, 2019

I stumbled across this video by accident... and I'm so glad that I did. Something I strongly believe in is the importance of creative thinking for all people. I also believe that our natural creativity is often stunted by formal "Art" education. In her TED Talk: "Teaching Art or Teaching to Think Like an Artist?" art educator, Cindy Foley, explains this much more eloquently than I can. The Columbus Museum of Art (CMA) summarizes the talk well:

"CMA’s Executive Assistant Director and Director of Learning and Experience Cindy Foley makes the case the Art’s critical value is to develop learners that think like Artists which means learners who are creative, curious, that seek questions, develop ideas, and play. For that to happen society will need to stop the pervasive, problematic and cliché messaging that implies that creativity is somehow defined as artistic skill."

It may just be the best use you could make of 15 minutes today.
